    In 2021, Agnes Tirop was murdered by her then partner, just a few weeks after setting a world record in a race in Germany. This viscious & heartbreaking murder, led her friend and fellow athlete, Viola Cheptoo to powerfully stand up and call for change. Josina wants to start a shelter for survivors in Mozambique, so we took her to one of the most impactful shelters for survivors in Kenya, the Kenya Women & Children's Wellness Center.

In 2020 alone, she rescued 4385 women & girls, 361 children and 14 infants. Usikimye runs 3 safehouses (2 for women & girls and 1 for men). They also run a toll-free line where survivors can reach out for support. They get, on average, 150 calls & social media rescue requests, per day.
